What Are We DOING?!

The average human lives to be about 80 if they are lucky - and the earth is thousands of years old. Our lifetime compared to the age of the world around us is miniscule.

So here we are. God placed us here in this place and time for a short period of time.

And what are we doing with our precious time?

I don't know about you, but today I've slept in until 1 p.m, sat on facebook, and watched a movie. What a life, huh?

Here I am inside this life God has granted me with, and I'm selfishly using my time for stupid, useless things that don't even bring me fufilment. He placed me here for one reason, His will! The time I spend watching TV is probably greater than the amount of time I've spent pursuing His will.

And Yet He Still Loves Me.

Okay cool. He loves me even though I spend most of my time doing selfish, stupid things. So I can just keep on living my life like I have been, right? And He'll keep on loving me?

Um. NO.

Say there is a parent who lovingly raised a son. As he grows up, he begins to rebel, first in small ways, but as he gets older his rebeling increases. Before long, he is never at home and refuses to live by the rules his mother had long ago established. Does this mean his mother hates him and abandons him? No of course not! No mother's love could never ever cause her to do that. Although it causes her great pain and hurt, she continues to love him with all her heart. She expresses her love towards him and tries to set him back on the right path - but he does not listen or return her love.

Sound familiar?

I can bet that in every relationship with God, something like the above story happens between God and the person. We are the son/daughter, He is the father. If we truly were a follower of God - we would not cause him even greater pain by ignoring his will and the path he has set out for us. This is what we are doing by choosing our own way.

What Will You Do With Your Life?

Followup:
And please don't think this means movies and entertainment and facebook are horrible sins and should never be used. Not at all! Although they are pointless, they are (for the most part) harmless. UNLESS (yes, I just pulled the "bold, italicized, underlined" move.) they are placed above God and His will. God should ALWAYS (there it is again!) be the first priority in our life. And if these things are causing us to be lead off of God's path?
Probably not the best idea to continue putting your time into them.

Hope you were able to follow my ramblings,
xoxo Abbie
